The Diamond Energy Female Midget AAA Wildcats found the back of the net four times in three games over the weekend and were unable to secure a win in any of the three.

The weekend started at home on Friday night as the Wildcats welcomed the Notre Dame Hounds to Fairview West arena.

The Wildcats peppered Hounds' goalie Kaitlyn Ross with 35 shots in regulation, but couldn't solve the netminder through three periods.

The same could be said for Swift Current's Harper Davey, who stopped 19 shots through three periods to hold the score at 0-0 and take the game to overtime.

Notre Dame needed just one shot in the extra frame, as 2:17 into OT, Olivia Hanson snuck a shot past Davey in net to claim the 1-0 OT victory.

Ross faced two more shots in overtime for a 37 save performance.

"It was kind of a tough loss for us. We thought we were the better team, and that happens," said Wildcats head coach Terry Pavely. "Their goaltender was really good, and that's the way it goes sometimes. We talked to our team about wanting to just carry on, and keep playing the way we did against Notre Dame."

Swift hopped on the bus the next morning for a Saturday afternoon matchup in Prince Albert against the Northern Bears, the first of two games against the P.A. club over the weekend.

The Northern Bears were the first team to put a goal on the board in the game, as Jasper Desmarais put the puck past Wildcats goaltender Amaya Giraudier 11 seconds into the game.

"Unfortunately we just fell asleep off the faceoff," Pavely said. "Right off the puck drop, we gave up a 3-on-2 and their player did a good job of burying the puck - but we responded very well."

After a second P.A. goal in the final minutes of the first frame, the Wildcats cut the lead to one on a power play goal courtesy of Ryleigh White 2:34 into the second.

The goal on the man-advantage proved to the be the period's lone point, as the 2-1 P.A. lead was carried to the final frame.

Prince Albert stretched the lead back to two goals midway through the third, but a second power-play shot for the Wildcats was put past the Bears' goalie, this time from Taylor Kirwan, to keep the lead at one with just under six minutes to play.

"We got it to 3-2, and pulled our goaltender with 1:42 left, and we had three good looks to tie that hockey game," said the Wildcats' bench boss. "Their goaltender made some pretty good saves at the end when they really needed it."

In similar fashion to Friday's game against Notre Dame, the Wildcats posted a pile of shots on the opposition's netminder in the third period, as they out-shot Prince Albert 13-4 in the final 20 minutes, and 26-25 for the game.

"We just played a really good game. Our little details were done well - our line changes were really smart," Pavely said. "As coaches, we were really happy with the way we played, and we played two really good hockey games against good teams, and fell short in games we thought we could have won."

Swift finished the game 2-for-7 on the power play (28.6%) and would have the same amount of opportunities on the 5-on-4 against Prince Albert in Sunday's game.

However, the game didn't get off to a good start, according to Pavely.

"Our first period wasn't that good on Sunday, we weren't moving our feet, and getting some penalties because we weren't moving. Our compete level wasn't good, and we were missing some assignments."

The Northern Bears scored both a power-play and a short-handed goal in the first period, adding a third goal less than three minutes into the second to take the commanding lead.

"We ended up digging ourselves a 3-0 hole, and then we really clawed back."

Ryleigh White scored with 7:16 left in the second, and then 30 seconds later, Layne Hryhoriw scored again for the Wildcats.

"In the last 12 minutes of the second period we played really well and we dominated the game - we had some looks that we probably should have buried that would have tied it up."

But as was the case in the first period, Pavely says his team came out a little flat in the final 20.

"For whatever reason again in the third, we lacked a little bit of energy. Our effort wasn't there, and it just kind of got away from us."

P.A. scored 1:22 into the third, and added two more, winning 6-2.

Harper Davey was charged with the loss, stopping 18 of 23 Northern Bear shots. Giraudier came in in relief, stopping 7 of 8 in the final 12:41 of the game.

The winless weekend puts the Wildcats back to 3-3-0-1 on the season, and in third place in the SFMAAAHL.

"We've got to find a way to grind through the tough times," said Pavely, on playing three games in three days. "We've got to find a way to be a little bit better, be a little bit smarter with our play, and find a way to compete for the whole 60 minutes. Hopefully, it's a lesson learned that we have to do some things a little bit different to make sure that we can handle that little bit of adversity, and that little bit of fatigue when it starts to set in."

The Diamond Energy Female Midget AAA Wildcats are back at home for two games against the Melville Prairie Fire (2-3-0-0) October 21 and 22 at Fairview West arena.
