wildcats camp

As the summer winds down, hockey season continues to draw ever closer.

Over the weekend, the Diamond Energy Female Midget 'AAA' Wildcats held camp at the Credit Union iPlex in preparation for the upcoming season.

Wildcats Head Coach, Terry Pavely says despite recently losing a few players to unforeseen circumstances, he was pleasantly surprised with the weekend.

"Our young talent, especially our young Swift Current talent really impressed us. Leaving camp, even though we were a little skeptical with what happened the week leading up, we were really impressed and really happy with what transpired and the kids we have. Probably by the end of the weekend, we were back to thinking we are going to be a competitive hockey team," he said.

Pavely also added, as they continue to build their roster for 2016/17, character is a key component for their players.

"I really believe the kids we have coming back are quality character kids. Those are the kids we are going to count on and need to count on in tough games. When things are going tough, it is kids with character that are able to dig you out of a hole or find a way to comeback. Kids that lack that character, when things get difficult they don't perform well. I think our veteran group coming back is a really strong character group

The Wildcats will begin their regular season October 1st in Melville.
