In Day 1 of action from the 2019 World Junior Championship, Team Canada was firing on all cylinders, cruising to a resounding 14-0 victory over Denmark.

Canada scored three goals in the first, five in the second, and six in the third.

WHL products Cody Glass (Portland Winterhawks) and Brett Leason (PA Raiders) both padded the stat sheet with four-point nights.

Leason had a pair of goals and assists, while Glass chipped in with four helpers.

Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds forward Morgan Frost led the way with a hat-trick and five points.


Meanwhile, the other three games on the day were all narrow 2-1 results.

  • The Czech Republic edged Switzerland in OT
  • The United States snuck by Slovakia in regulation, and
  • Former Swift Current Bronco Alekski Heponiemi was held off the stat sheet as his Finnish squad lost by a goal to Sweden.

Day 2 of the Vancouver/Victoria-hosted WJC:

  • The Russians face Denmark in the early game (3 p.m. Sask time)
  • Slovakia and Sweden go head-to-head (5:30 p.m. Sask time)
  • Canada hosts Switzerland (7 p.m. Sask time)
  • Heponiemi and Finland take on Kazakhstan in the late game (9:30 p.m. Sask time)
