The Ernfold and District Lioness Club are having their 19th Purina Walk for Dog Guides May 31 in Morse.

The pledges raised go to help train guide dogs for people with disabilities.

"The ones that we sponsor are trained in Oakville Ontario. They are trained as canine vision dogs, we have the hearing/ear dogs, autism assistance dogs, service dogs, seizure response dogs and diabetic alert dogs," said Coordinator Pat Gall.

Nationally the event has taken place 30 times, Gall explained what got the towns of Ernfold and Morse involved for the 19 years.

"19 years ago my husband was the district governor for the area. We were fortunate enough to visit the school in Oakville Ontario that trained the dogs. There they explained to us about this walk and that they had a national date and so I took it upon myself to get it organized in our area. The Lioness Club has sponsored it ever since," said Gall.

The walk has raised $24,000 in its successful past 18 years. The walk is also the longest continuous walk in Saskatchewan.

The 3 kilometer walk starts at the Morse Museum, May 31 at 11am. No registration is necessary. Dogs are welcome to join their owners.
