A 200-day prison sentence was given in Swift Current Provincial Court yesterday to a man that didn't exactly comply with the law on more than one occassion this past summer.

Henry Bender has now been released after being behind bars for 133 days (which equates to 200 days accounting for time served).

Judge Karl Bazin accepted a joint submission from Bender's defence, Rod Simaluk, and Prosecutor Curtis Wiebe.

Bazin said the sentence was on the low side, but fell in the range of what's been set as precedent through case law.

Police saw two people on a UTV driving in excess of 80 kilometres per hour on 13th Avenue Northeast in Swift Current back on July 12, and the UTV fled through a walking path. Bender was the driver.

Bender already entered a guilty plea to evading police, but also pleaded guilty for counts related to theft of a motorcycle. He'll also have to pay $3,900 to SGI and $700 to a victim as part of victim surcharges.
