For the second year, participants gathered in Elmwood Park this weekend to race for a cause.

The Prpick Boss Mother Earth Run and Walk is in its second year and this year saw over 80 participants.

Stephanie Prpick-Boss, race coordinator, says this is double last year's number of runners, and hopes to see the race continue to grow as years pass.

She says bringing awareness to environmental stewardship is the main purpose behind the event.

"We are very much environmental stewards," she said. "Environmental stewardship is very much the focus on our business, Prpick-Boss. Earth Day, with myself, I love the outdoors. I have three children, and [it's important] for our future generations."

"The focus of the run is for people to live in harmony and nature, and to get out and be active healthy and to utilize the trail. We're just encouraging people to protect Mother Earth and to come out and enjoy the outdoors."

All material used in the race is either biodegradable or recyclable. Instead of classic metals presented to those who crossed the finish line, Kwon's Green House provided finishing petals- flowers for participants to re-pot and grow.

In addition to the environmental factor, Prpick-Boss says they donate partial proceeds to Southwest Homes to help highlight their residential and small business recycling program.
