After a month of tickets being sold throughout various businesses in Swift Current, the 50/50 for Change winner was announced on Saturday.

A total of $27,060 was raised, meaning both the winner of the 50/50 for change draw and the Southwest Crisis Services received $13,530.

Laura Beddome, the community relations coordinator for the Southwest Crisis Services, said that it means a lot to be able to raise that much money.

"It means a lot," Beddome said. "We are a registered charity, and we rely on (community) support such as these fundraisers, and gifts from individuals and groups who believe in what we do. We were able to bring a little more awareness about the work that we do and put these funds towards what we need to raise each year."

Beddome added that money would help them fund their core services.

Over 774 people bought 1548 tickets, but there could only be one winning ticket.

That ticket was number 3193 and sold to Travis Cuthbert who was the winner of over $13,000.

Cuthbert who is a financial adviser at Mercator Financial said he was with his kids at the pool when he found out.

"I got out of the pool, and I was getting them all dressed and all that kind of stuff and when I glanced at my phone walking out of the pool I had about 20 or so text messages kind of lined up, and I didn't really know what was going on until I scrolled through them," he said.

Cuthbert said when you buy these tickets you're doing it because it's for a good cause and not to win.

"When you buy these types of tickets, you support these local charities that are raising funds, and it's in the back of your mind, and you're not thinking about the prize you could potentially win," he said. "You're thinking about all the other things that the money is going to do for those that need it. So when it happens to you, your kind of still a little bit shellshocked."

Cuthbert added that he doesn't know what he's going to do with the money yet, but said he might take the family for a trip.
