Monday night Everett Hindley won the Saskatchewan Party nomination to run in the upcoming Swift Current provincial byelection.

Hindley's worked for Premier and Swift Current MLA Brad Wall for 18 years. But with a theme of renewal around the party, Hindley says there's some balancing to do.

"That'll be important for me to try to find the balance between what I've learned from Brad as my boss and colleague the past 18 years, and sort of pull what I can from that. But then also kind of be my own person - I guess you could say it that way, and carve out a bit of a different path for myself here as well. And I'll take that from the constituents right, and the voters - when the byelection comes - we'll hear directly from them, what they want to say and what they want to see as priorities here in Swift Current. I think that will sort of form the positions that I'm able to take."

A byelection is expected late winter or early spring. Candidates haven't been announced for opposing parties yet.

The NDP and Liberal Parties of Saskatchewan have leadership campaigns underway.
