The Shaunavon Co Op Association Board of Directors has recommended a merger with Pioneer Co Op Association to take effect February 4th of 2018.

The Shaunavon Board has been considering a merger recommendation for the past two years, and felt that now was the time to approach Pioneer Co Op about a possible merger.

At the request of both Co Ops a detailed feasibility study was conducted by Federated Co Op's Regional Office and, given the positive results, the Boards of Directors from both Co Ops have voted unanimously to proceed with the merger recommendation.

Shaunavon Board President, Randy Morris, says in a press release that they are finding it more difficult to remain profitable during economic down turns, and have limited capacity to expand into new business lines or to upgrade and expand existing locations.

Among the benefits of a merger would be enhanced member patronage payments, as well as members being able to use the same membership number at a large regional Co Op serving 18 communities with 30 locations throughout southwest Saskatchewan. And a larger Co Op will also have expanded buying power which will result in more competitive prices and enhanced product lines.

Shaunavon Co Op General Manager, Kevin Braun, says there will be no job losses for employees in the Bracken, Eastend, and Shaunavon locations.

Shaunavon Co Op members will be asked to vote on the recommendation at special member's meetings that will happen this fall.
