Many Islands Pipe Lines Canada Limited is a federally regulated and wholly owned subsidiary of SaskEnergy. They held an Open House in Shaunavon on Wednesday.

The Open House was to discuss a proposed natural gas line and meter station project that would be located approximately 8.5 kilometers south of Shaunavon.

Casey MacLeod is Supervisor of Government and Media Relations with SaskEnergy. She says that they are looking to increase natural gas supply to the province. "What this will allow us to do is connect our existing infrastructure in the area, in this case, to The Foothills Line, that's also in the area. The Foothills line brings in gas from Alberta. We connect our line to it and then we're able to access that supply that we've contracted to come into the province."

Details of the proposed project, including gas line route, safety and environmental protection, construction plans, emergency management and the next steps in the project, were all available for the public to view.

The meter station is currently estimated to cost $4 million and the gas line $5 million.

Construction could begin as early as July 2020 and will last approximately 16 weeks.
