A couple guys have gotten the ball rolling to potentially bring high-speed internet to Lac Pelletier.

Dan Kane and Tom Kehoe started the Lac Pelletier Internet Committee and want to bring in high-speed access to the community by next spring/early next summer.

Kane said between 150-200 people live there year round, and that there are roughly 360 lots in total, with more people moving to the regional park about 15 minutes south of Swift Current.

Kane and Kehoe have been in talks with the Crown corporation SaskTel and they’re trying to get the support from people in the area. Kane said they need 50 people to sign up for the service in order for SaskTel to set things up.

“It’s time,” said Kane. “We want to be just like the big city here. We want to make sure that we can service the community as much as possible.”

“The government has said high-speed internet is a basic necessity for life these days, and it’s like that here as well as everywhere else,” Kane added.

So far Kane said they’ve met with the regional park, the Hamlet of Darlings Beach and the R.M. of Lac Pelletier. But for now it depends on what kind of commitment they get out of the community.
