A Southwest area Chef is heading off to a national competition.

Chef Garrett Thienes from The Harvest Eatery in Shaunavon is off to Toronto March first to third to complete in The Garland Discovered Culinary Competition.

The Competition gives Canadian Chefs the chance to showcase their talent and passion for food in front of a judging panel of industry experts.

Thienes submitted his name and after voting he was voted the second place"Fan Favorite" just behind a Chef from Toronto.

Chef "Rusty" explains how the Competition works.."There will be multiple heats. So there's, I think, five to eight heats on a given day. There will be four Chefs in each heat. In each heat we will have sixty minutes. We'll be given a black box that has five ingredients in it. We'll have to use three of those ingredients to create four plates.They will select one winner from each heat to move on to the next day."

The last Chef standing walks away with $5,000 and a package from the Canadian Angus Beef Association, as well as an opportunity to work in a restaurant of their choosing for a couple of weeks to learn more skills.
