After a three-month break, Canada's federal politicians return to work at the House of Commons for a new session of Parliament.

Cypress Hills-Grasslands MP, David Anderson says their main priority for the session will be to get their first main course of legislation passed after May's election, which includes the federal budget.

Anderson adds they will also be introducing legislation to remove the Canadian Wheat Board's monopoly on grain sales, repeal the long-gun registry, and bring in their crime bill.

Meanwhile, the government's plans to dismantle the Canadian Wheat Board’s single desk is expected to be a hot issue on Parliament Hill.

Liberal MP for Wascana Ralph Goodale believes farmers should have the right to determine the issue for themselves through a government mandated plebiscite.

The results from the CWB’s own producer plebiscite shows 62 percent of wheat growers and 51 percent of barley growers wish to maintain the ability to market their grains through the boards single-desk monopoly.
