The beginning of a new year brings with it reflection on the year that has past. 2014 saw a number of accomplishments and challenges for the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure.

Faced with carrying out ongoing projects while dealing with extreme weather conditions, the Ministry were focused on improving the lives of Saskatchewan motorists.

"It was a big year for building and maintaining our highways. That's our focus to make sure we have a strong, safe and efficient highway transportation system to help our economy grow and to make sure that the people who live in Saskatchewan have the best quality of life possible. Another thing that was sort of unique about 2014 was both in the winter and the summer we had extreme weather to deal with."

Communications consultant with the Ministry Joel Cherry says there are a number of projects that will be continued as well as started in the new year. "There are alot of major projects being carried over, like I said highway #7 passing lanes, highway #16 twinning. A huge one thats going to be coming up in the coming years is the twinning of Highways #6 and #39 between Regina and the US border"

This past year also saw the Ministry receive significant funding from the federal government as part of the building Canada fund. The funding will be used towards a number of projects in the coming years including the Regina bypass project.
