Saskatchewan's average wages are the second highest in the country for the first time ever.

According to September's numbers average weekly earnings were $906.22, well above the national average of $872.75 and only second to Alberta.

Minister of Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration Rob Norris says the natural resource sectors are helping to fuel this success, and he is also seeing momentum in the transportation, construction and manufacturing sectors.

Norris adds the numbers revealed another first: "For the first time in the history of this data being collected, is that Saskatchewan has jumped ahead of Ontario, so the numbers are very encouraging and reflect and reinforce that Saskatchewan is seen as a growth leader in Canada."

The average wage jumped 6.9% compared to September 2010. The national increase was 1.1%.
