Doctors across Saskatchewan are contacting patients as a result of a problem with vitamin B12 test results from the past two years.

But Saskatchewan Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. Moira McKinnon, said it's only in rare cases.

"In very few people, there's a certain anti-body affector in the blood which interferes with the test and gives a falsely elevated reading," explained Dr. McKinnon. "It's only in those people with, what we call, pernicious anemia."

Pernicious anemia is a condition where you can't absord B12 through the gut.

Dr. McKinnon says if there is an issue with your test, your doctor will contact you; but, if you are suffering from symptoms of pernicious anemia, you are still advised to see your doctor.
