An update has been provided into the train derailment in Beechy this past weekend that blocked highway 342.

The Sunday morning incident that involved a couple rail cars coming off the track was attending by RCMP, who deemed it not a risk to the public.

The two rail cars were carrying grain and belonged to AGT Food and Ingredients Inc.

Omer Al-Katib, a spokesperson for AGT Food and Ingredients Inc., said the company is continuing to investigate the cause of the derailment.

"Because it's become an operational matter, not a matter of public safety, we don't have anything to report on what the exact cause was," he said. "These things certainly do happen from time to time. With safety and operational policies in place, these type of things can be remediated in that fashion."

AGT Food and Ingredients Inc. confirmed the cars were rerailed by Monday afternoon with traffic opening back up on highway 342.

No injuries resulted from the incident either according to Al-Katib.
