Valentine's Day is known everywhere for chocolates, flowers and lots of love, but Police warn that it can also be a prime target for online scams.

Valentine's scams cost Canadians $19 million dollars last year, and there's nothing to love about that.

Police urge you to be skeptical of people you've only met on line, especially if they're asking for money, pictures, and personal or financial information, and if they say they live nearby but are overseas for some reason.

Police say if you find yourself a victim of a  Valentine scam you should stop all contact with the scammer, contact your financial institution to halt any outstanding payments, report the incident to police, and file a report with The Canadian Anti Fraud Center.
