Five days after Premier Brad Wall announced he'll be retiring, the landscape continues to change for the Saskatchewan Party.

Kindersley MLA Bill Boyd - who is based in Eston - announced today that he'll be retiring from public life.

Boyd was a founding member of the Saskatchewan Party after leading the Progressive Conservatives provincially. He was Minister of Economy under the Wall government before resigning from cabinet last summer, and also managed the province's Energy and Resources portfolio.

The move is effective as of September 1.

In a release, Wall said Boyd was a big part of the Saskatchewan Party over its 20-year history.

"It's no exaggeration to say if it wasn't for Bill Boyd, there wouldn't be a Saskatchewan Party," said Wall.  "Bill was willing to give up his position as party leader to help form this new political voice for Saskatchewan, and has been a key reason for our party's success ever since."

A common theme in the recent retirement announcements by Wall and Boyd is the need for "renewal" in the party.

In the Tuesday press release, Wall said that Boyd "clearly feels it's time for renewal in our party and for the Kindersley constituency, so now is the right time for this decision."

After his own retirement announcement, Wall said, "I think it is time for renewal, and also the right time for me and (my wife) Tami."
