As part of Saskatchewan Library Week, the Swift Current Library was out selling books over the weekend to help benefit the community.

The funds from the sale went towards making it possible for the library to offer a better library experience to Swift Current.

Andrea McCrimmon, manager of the Swift Current Library, said that the sale benefited the purchasers of books just as much as it helped the library.

"I think it's a great opportunity for people to stock up on wonderful things to read, and all the money that we raise goes towards library programming and purchasing new books for the library."

McCrimmon said that the books being sold were not going to be missed at the library.

"They're kind of a mixture of books that we don't need in the library system anymore, and also books that people have donated to sell on their behalf."

The two-day sale started at 9:30 Saturday morning, and picked back up at noon yesterday.

When asked what kind of new books they would be purchasing, McCrimmon said more popular books, as well as books presented in a different format, would be bought.

"Well we're always buying new stock of the latest and greatest best sellers that people want to read right now, and we like to buy multiple copies of the new books so that people aren't waiting too long to have their turn at reading them, or else we're investing more money in our e-book or e-audio book collection."

Speaking more about their e-books, McCrimmon said that a large number of books are now available through an e-book and e-audio book selection.

"We have a great app called Libby, and it's a free app to download, and you can access thousands and thousands of e-books and e-audio books just by having a library card, and it's all free."

The library has other events planned out for this week, like a public reading of the children's book Mama's Cloud by its author Jessica Williams at the library.

Saskatchewan Library Week runs from October 14 to 20.
