The Swift Current Broncos are on to face Moose Jaw in the second round of playoffs, and local businesses are reaping the rewards.

It's a 72-game regular season, but playoffs mean more hockey in town, and those extra games are bigger draws.

Swift Current Chamber of Commerce CEO Karla Wiens said that buzz is big for business and the community as a whole.

"Anytime our local WHL franchise is in the playoffs, that brings people to town who are going to be eating at our local restaurants, shopping at our local shops, staying at our local hotels, so the economic spinoff from that is great, and not to mention the energy that seems to be flowing through our community," Wiens said.

"It's a testament when you can't get tickets anymore to the games because they're selling out immediately, that's a huge success for our local Bronco team. It's just great to see the guys on the team doing so well, and hopefully for this next series they'll perform just as well."

Round 2 against the Warriors starts tonight in Moose Jaw against the top-ranked Warriors.

Jill Kennedy manages a pub in Swift Current that showed road games throughout the season, and since home games have been selling out they're showing all playoff tilts. Kennedy said they draw more than just Swift Current fans.

"Especially during the last series, we had quite a few Pats fans coming through and have supper before the game and drinks and things like that," she said.

"It's just been great showing the games. It's been a huge opportunity for us. It's just been great. I can't explain, as somebody who loves hockey, loves sports, how awesome it is to see so many people come out and not only support us as a homegrown business, but also support the Broncos, which is huge."

Shaun Hanna is a general manager of a restaurant's Swift Current location, and said the industry does well when their local team does well.

"We do better when our teams do better - that's just the truth of it. People are out there, having a night out and enjoying some Bronco action, and coming out afterwards. When the Broncos are doing better, we certainly do better. That's always been true, so the last couple years has been fantastic. And going into playoffs, we see that bump and kind of continue into the playoff season, and it just gets better and louder, so we definitely see an increase in sales."

Suffice to say, there's a little bit of an extra reason for people in the local business community to be cheering for the Broncos.
