It was the first of its kind for the City of Swift Current as they hosted a tailgate and viewing party for Game 1 of the WHL final between the Broncos and the Everett Silvertips.

On top of food and drink, the tailgate party featured bouncy castles and face painting. After the tailgating party had ended, it was followed up with a screening of the game in the curling rink.

Mayor Denis Perrault was one of the hundreds of fans to join in on the party and said that the support they received was incredible.

"It's exciting to see all this community rally and come together," he said. "We are given a fun atmosphere where if you don't have a ticket you have a chance to come watch our game."

Perrault said it was no surprise to see the support they received.

"The Swift Current Broncos are a big part of our identity, so it's no surprise that the community wants to support this," he said. "It's absolutely humbling for me; it's exciting and so much fun."

Perrault added that they would not have been able to pull today or tomorrow off if it wasn't for the volunteers.

Many Broncos fans shared Perrault's enthusiasm for the day including Broncos fan Kim Hadden.

"It's fun, it's great," he said. "It's nice to see everybody, and it's something to do before the game. Get down to the rink early and visit everybody. It's just an awesome day with beautiful weather and fans hanging around here, so it's a great, great day."

Pat Rokochy, a Broncos fan who's lived in the city for 14 years, says that the event was fantastic.

"This is what everyone has been dreaming about," he said. "We've been waiting for this for 25 years. We are thrilled, and it's been awesome. It's so positive. Everyone's just on board and excited to get behind the Broncos and it's been great. It's great for the kids, get the kids out here, beautiful sunny day, great place to be outside it's perfect."

The City will be holding another tailgate and viewing party today for Game 2.

All of the proceeds from the event are set to go to Swift Current Broncos, Humboldt Broncos, and Swift Current Curling Club
