He has been affectionately named "Bruce the Moose" by area residents and he's been roaming the streets of Shaunavon for a couple of weeks now.

Conservation Officer, Kevin Harrison, says the moose has moved into Shaunavon probably because it's escaping the hard deep snow  in the rural area , and its easier to get around in town limits, and the animal is also looking for food.

Some residents have expressed concern that the condition of the animals coat seems unhealthy. Harrison says, "Moose are generally known to have, it's called a winter tick..it's more of a mite than a tick. But it's common in moose this time of year. And these mites, they don't carry diseases that can transmit to humans, so they're safe for humans."

Harrison says the moose appears docile and will probably move on soon.

Residents are reminded to steer clear of the animal if you see it, and avoid hollering at it, or honking your vehicle horns at it, as that could stress it out and it could become agitated.

If the moose has the hair standing up on it's shoulders,or it's ears up and head down that means it is stressed and could be dangerous. Conservation Officers say don't go near it and phone the local Conservation Officers right away.

There has also been a young moose visiting the community of Eastend recently.
