The City of Swift Current has received their first ever development permit for a retail cannabis store.

Dreamweavers Cannabis Products Inc. is looking to set up shop at 106 Central Avenue North and a motion passed by city council on Monday night got the ball rolling.

"Additional procedures are required to ensure council considers whether the proposed change-of-use conforms to the site regulations and development standards, will not be a source of nuisance or endanger the public, and will not impede the orderly development of the surrounding property," Michael Ruus, general manager of planning and growth development with the City of Swift Current, told council.

The company will now have to go through the three-step system council setup on Monday before they're approved.

Tuesday morning the City mailed out public notice to property owners within 75 metres of the proposed location.

A public hearing will be held at next council meeting on September 28.

And the final step of the process is council's decision which will come on October 9 at the following council meeting.

Dreamweavers Cannabis Products Inc. is one of the two companies to win a licensed permit for Swift Current.
