City Council discussed the new personal care facility at their first meeting of 2012

Development is set to begin shortly on land recently designated to be the site of a personal care facility on Swift Current's northeast side.

At last night's City Council meeting, councillors voted in favour of subdividing the parcel of land that Golden Health Care Incorporated purchased just east of the Cypress Regional Hospital in the Saskatchewan Valley subdivision.

"The main part of (the subdivision) was to create two larger parcels to accomodate a 72 unit personal care home facility," Director of Engineering for the City of Swift Current, Mac Forster says. "Now that the parcel has been subdivided, those developers can move forward and we expect a development from them very shortly and construction hopefully in the early summer."

"Our engineering group is working with the engineers secured by the developer and we're working out some details in regards to proper servicing and additional servicing. Those costs are included in the purchased cost of the property," Forster states regarding the current status of the planned construction. Once the details have been figured out, a final design will be completed and submitted to City Council for approval.

Also part of the land subdivision was the renaming of a street in the area as Scott Place was renamed to Scott Street. The reason for the name change came as the street switches from a planned cul-de-sac to a through road that connects Saskatchewan Drive with Waker Road.
