Swift Current Centennial Committee L-R: Herb Butz, Pat Smith, Travis Cuthbert, Dave Spencer, Pat Friesen, George Bowditch, Gord Budd, Eldon Moberg

In 2005, our province celebrated it's centennial. In 2014, it's our city's turn.

Yesterday afternoon the Swift Current Centennial Committee was unveiled to help plan for the upcoming milestone, marking 100 years since we were incorporated as a city.

First up for the committee will be establishing a brand for what will be a busy year for Swift Current. "One of the key points will be to build a theme and a brand to carry us forward," says Co-Chair of the Committee Pat Friesen. "Also looking at marketing and how we'll get the word out to everyone. And we'll also be looking at setting our budget and setting events."

That budget could come from several streams of funding, including the possibility of different grants, according to the other Co-Chair Dave Spencer. "We're very much in the early stages, but there will be some budget forthcoming from the city and we expect to hear something about that sometime in the near future. Also I believe there will be applications for grants, both provincial and federal that we may qualify, so we're hoping to be helped in that manner."

The committee consists of Pat Friesen and Dave Spencer serving as co-chair. Community members Herb Butz, Eldon Moberg, Travis Cuthbert, Pat Smith, along with city representatives Gord Budd and George Bowditch will make up the remainder of the board.
