Central Butte

Thanks to area residents, a massive grass fire has been contained, just west of Central Butte.

The volunteer fire department put the call out just after the lunch hour Wednesday, asking for all the help they could get in containing a raging fire just along the west side outskirts of town. Firefighters from other communities and nearby farmers responded, and at last word have gotten the fire under control.

A caller to the Swift Current Online newsroom described the fire as burning just outside of Central Butte on the opposite side of Highway 19 from the junction of Highway 42 all the way down to 1 1/2 kilometres south of Central Butte and stretched 1 kilometre west.

Town Administrator Joyce Aitken is thankful to everyone that helped out. "Right now it's under control. We have lots of resources out there right now, lots of help, lots of people, lots of equipment, so right now it's under control."

"I don't think there's been any property damage or any damage to structures, other than that, it was just a grass fire", added Aitken.
