Chamber of Commerce Chairman, Trevor Koot

The chairman of the Swift Current and District Chamber of Commerce says he hopes the city's gap between commerical and residential taxpayers, which the Canadian Federation of Indepent recently called the highest among Saskatchewan cities, will at least be lowered.

Trevor Koot says instead of reducing the gap by redistributing the tax burden, he suggests that the city continue to be aggressive in increasing the commercial tax base in the city.

"Based on current formulas, it would naturally close that gap just by having a larger base paying the commercial property tax", says Koot.

He adds that although the gap is there, he commends the city for being able to have some of the lowest property taxes in the province.
