The Chinook School Division presented its first-quarter financial report during their board meeting on Monday.

"As expected a quarter of the year has passed and we've spent a quarter of our budget," which put Chinook on target for expenditures according to Controller Mike Guindon.

Revenues within the school division are currently up slightly but primarily because of the timing for property taxes attributing to that. "We've received 44% of our budget, but that's only part of our year that's passed. So we surmize we'll have 100% of what we expect for taxation", Guindon says.

The school division set a budget this year of nearly $80.5 million that was approved by the Ministry of Education back in September. Among those figures was an estimated surplus of nearly $4 million.

At that time , Chinook's Director of Education Liam Choo-Foo stated he was satisfied with what they had put together, as it allowed them to maintain their literacy programs while also funding new initiatives such as the new math initiative and meeting resource needs in the Hutterian school system.
