Difficulties in trying to recruit French immersion teachers have led to the Chinook School Division to look to Eastern Canada.

Acting Director of Education Kyle McIntyre said they were able to get some positive results, hiring two teachers from a recruiting trip last year to Fredericton, New Brunswick, “While we were out there recruiting we found out that Moncton is actually a larger trainer of French immersion or French as a second language teachers. So this year Rod Seamens, our human resources coordinator, and I went out recruiting there and found some very solid prospects.”

McIntyre adds the only place in Saskatchewan that trains French Immersion teachers is the University of Regina, which only turned out five grads last year who were hired by schools in Saskatoon and Regina.
