Christmas is always a time of great need in the community, and those in need this season can look to the Salvation Army for help.

Registration for the Salvation Army's Christmas Hampers open Monday morning at 10:00am, and will remain open for the next two weeks. Those who wish to register are asked to apply in person at the local Food Bank.

In 2010, 200 hampers were distributed in Swift Current, and Captain Michael Ramsay says he expects a similar demand this year: "All indications across the country so far is that in general, food bank use is up, so I would imagine to have at least that many families in need in our community."

In addition, Captain Ramsay says the Salvation Army will again host a Community Dinner on Christmas Day: "Last year, we served over 200 meals for the Community Christmas Dinner, and this year it's wonderful because it's on a Sunday as well, so if anyone is looking to catch a Christmas church service, we will have that at 10:30 in the morning, too."

Advance tickets for the dinner are just one dollar each, and are available starting Monday at the Salvation Army Food Bank or Thrift Store.
