The City of Swift Current has announced it has extended their moratorium on the controversial non-resident recreation user fees.

Last November, the fees were put on hold until April 1 as the City and RM of Swift Current worked toward a funding agreement for rec facilities.

Mayor Jerrod Schafer said in a city press release, issued on Monday, that they have had encouraging dialogue with the RM on various items, including annexation, a provision of high-quality water for rural residents and a need to work more closely together. He added through their joint application with the Planning for Growth initiative, which was recently approved by the province, they will bring in a facilitator to help work out a solution for recreation funding and other services.

The City will also be reimbursing the non-resident fees collected to date sometime in the near future.
