Swift Current residents could be getting a knock on the door from city fire fighters sometime in the near future.

The City's fire department is launching a door-to-door campaign to make sure homes are fire safe.

"We're finding that we do a fairly good job of handling our commercial and multi-residential inspections according to the building code and the fire code," said Swift Current Deputy Fire Chief Pete L'Heureux. "What we're finding is that a lot of our injuries and fires are happening in individual private homes where the fire department really doesn't have the jursdiction to enforce anything."

L'Heureux adds they will also be providing batteries and smoke detectors on behalf of Acklands-Grainger and MacMor Industries.

The campaign will begin on the city's southside.
