The City of Swift Current has begun their salute to veterans of the past and present ahead of Remembrance Day.

During this past Saturday city crews decorated eight crosswalks throughout the downtown core with poppies.

This is the second time this year crosswalks have been painted for holidays, with the first occurring during Canada Day celebrations.

"At that time it was also thought that we would be able to do other items that would enhance the community such as poppies for Remembrance Day," Mitch Minken, general manager of infrastructure and operations with the City of Swift Current, said.

He also noted the idea come from the administration group and something they look forward to continuing when possible.
