Swift Current City Council will soon vote to rezone lands that they acquired from the Rural Municipality of Swift Current in August.

The areas in the city's northeast and northwest are to be changed from Agricultural and Resource Districts, as they were in the RM, to the city's Urban Reserve.

City Engineering Director Mac Forster says current landowners in the areas now under the city's boundaries will not have to make any changes to their properties.

Forster adds council is expected to vote on the bylaw in the next few weeks, at which time a public hearing will be held.

The Urban Reserve designation is to ensure that land required for future development is protected from premature subdivision and development.

It is not to be confused with land status designated for First Nations.
