Last week at city council, the council announced that they are changing the Bronco Memorial Education Fund Bylaw.

The Bylaw was created in 1988 in memory for the four Broncos players who passed away in the tragic bus accident in 1986.

The fund's purpose is to provide financial assistance for post-secondary education to former Broncos players.

Tim Marcus, the chief administrative officer with the City of Swift Current, explained the changes their making.

"Well the changes allow the fund to be put into an investment fund where it can acquire a higher rate of return," he said. "That way it'll be able to pay something out which is what was intended to do. So instead of being invested in interest only, it can be invested in some equity funds that guarantee a rate of return that would make it worthwhile to contribute towards their education fund."

Marcus said the last few years the money they've received from the fund has been minimal, which is why they wanted to make the change.

"We're just updating to today's investment climate or market to allow for the fund to do what it was intended to do and provide revenue for the education fund."

Marcus adds that every year when the fund pumps out money it goes towards funding scholarship requirements that the Broncos have for the players that move onto acquire an education.

Other changes to the bylaw saw any grammar and spelling errors fixed.
