June is Recreation and Parks Month in the province.

Coinciding with the number of residents who choose to head to Saskatchewan provincial parks around this time, the month is meant ostensibly to celebrate the importance of Saskatchewan's recreation, leisure and parks.

This year, to show its support and solidarity with the month, the city of Swift Current proclaimed this week, June 6-12 as "Recreation and Parks Week"

Jim Jones is the city's General Manager of Community Services.

"Every year it is important to promote the benefits of recreation, leisure and parks in our community and province. Recreation and active living are essential to personal health and help foster community, while parks provide essential environmental, aesthetic and recreational benefits to our city.”
