Following a successful Pride Week, the City of Swift Current has proclaimed the week of June 10 to June 16 Truth and Reconciliation week.

The Southwest Multicultural Association hosted the second-annual Truth and Reconciliation event at the Great Plains College last week to kick things off a little early. As part of the week, the City will raise a flag in honour and support of Truth and Reconciliation and the Swift Current Art Gallery is featuring NO. I Do Not Speak Cree by Audrey Dreaver.

Bula Ghosh, president of the Southwest Multicultural Associaton, said by proclaiming the week, the city is already raising awareness.

"Education is key in making a change, she said. "We hope our activities in the month of June about truth and reconciliation and Sixties Scoop will create better understanding, more awareness, and a sense of responsibility in all of us. Reconciliation is everybody's business. Let us all take part in the reconciliation process as we think we can, in our way and lay the foundation for a better tomorrow for all of us in Saskatchewan, Canada, and the world."

Ghosh said that she was happy to see the city recognize the week.

"We are very grateful for the city's participation because I think it is very meaningful that the city is behind us on this topic and we look forward to the support and presence on the events."

The flag raising for Truth and Reconciliation week will be held at Market Square at 12:00 pm on Monday.
