Hopefully reaching completion before this summer's Frontier Days, improvements to a Kinetic Park mainstay have been approved by city council.

At last night's city council meeting, a report regarding the re-siding of the Kinetic Park Grandstand was approved, allowing for the $102,900.19 project to go ahead. The budget which was approved for the project was $160,000.

The funds which will come out of the City of Swift Current's 2019 Capital Budget will see the current cedar siding removed and replaced with metal cladding. A fresh stain will also be applied to the seating area as a part of the project.

The contract was awarded to the company which gave the second-lowest estimate to the City of Swift Current, Elite Metal Builders, a Swift Current business.

The company which provided a lower estimate was C Knudsen Roofing/Insulation based out of Moose Jaw. That bid for the project came in at $99,343.20.

The highest bid received was $423,084.16.

City Councillor Ryan Plewis said that he believed they would still get good craftsmanship despite paying far less than that bid.

"I see that there is a professional engineer involved in the tender of this, so if there is any concern as to the quality of the work or if the material is as good as the other guys, I don't think there's that concern from my perspective at least, and I'm sure there isn't from administration's perspective either."

Other city councillors present expressed their approval of the contract being awarded to a local business.

There will also be a cost ranging from $10,000 to $15,000 to install a safety fence at the job site, which will stretch along the facility receiving the repairs from the Doc's Town grain elevator to the Palliser Pavilion.
