The City of Swift Current has renewed their operational service contract with SaskAbilities for the 2019 transit year.

City council made the decision on Monday night to continue the partnership at a cost of just under $413,000 for the year ($34,400 per month), which includes service for both the Access Transit System and Swift Transit System.

Jolene Peters, manager of engineering services with the City of Swift Current, said the 2019 contract is cheaper by about $10,000 in total due to a reduction of hours on the Swift Transit blue line.

"So it ends at 3 p.m. (now) when we start the high school route," she said following council. "So the high school route still runs after 3 p.m. but the blue line route system is done at 3 p.m. rather than 6 p.m."

Also stated within the contract is an option for one subsequent year with negotiations required for increases in operations and wages.
