The public had a chance to look at and comment on the City of Swift Current's Transportation Master Plan.

MMM Group, the consultants in charge of the plan, presented several study options and gathered feedback in a second open house at the Swift Current Mall last night.

Nathan Gray, the firm's Transportation Planning Manager, said the plan will look at some immediate and long-term solutions, “So far we've been looking at improving some of the intersections along Central near the North and South Service roads, looking at Memorial Drive as well. Improving some of the capacity of those intersections and then identifing some long term inerchanges to provide for capacity as the city grows in the future.”

Gray adds they received some good feedback from those who came by, “There's people in agreement with some of the options that were looking at and we'll be taking that to finalize our options. I think so far it's been some concern about getting access across the highway from the south to the north and capacity at the intersections along the north and south service road within the city.”

The event allowed residents to look at some of the things being looked at in the plan, and provide feedback to the consultants.

Local resident Pam Benn said one of her main concerns was a lack of safe pedestrian access along Highway 1, “With the discussion of moving the library out to the hospital area, I have a teenager luckly she'll be out of age before she has to walk up there and they are not going to be thinking of the highway traffic.”

The final report and recommendations will be presented at a final meeting to be held in June.

The information presented at this event will be available on the City's website in the coming days.
