The city of Swift Current has released opening dates for some of their facilities.

In a release by the city yesterday it was noted the Innovation Credit Union i-Plex would open on October 1 now instead of September 8.

The city of Swift Current's General Manager of Community Services Jim Jones said there a several reasons the city decided to make that call.

"The Western Hockey League and others indicated they are not going to start their league until about December 3, the Broncos would not need the ice," he said. "Also the midget AAA teams will not start until after the October long weekend, so basically again just trying to protect some of the cost to operate facilities, we'll try to do it all within one (ice rink)."

According to Jones, he believes the city could save around $90,000 by running just one rink for the month of September.

Another facility that is scheduled to open in about a month's time is the Aquatic Centre on September 22.

That date was pushed back two weeks by the city, but Fairview Pool will remain open an extra two weeks in a trade-off.

"Those dates are just projected and it's based on usership and it's also based on if we can attain some kind of fiscal revenue and expense stalling," he said. "What we're trying to do is give COVID a time to see when the kids go back to school as long as everything looks good and it's safe for our staff and safe for the public, then we want to open based on that."

The third and final facility that the city released a reopen date for is on August 24 for the Swift Current Museum and will be operating Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
