An anniversary year for several City of Swift Current employees.

A total of five City staff received Meritorious Service Awards Tuesday evening at the 113th Annual SUMA Convention.

The award recognizes municipal staff members that have accumulated at least 20 years of service, something Swift Current Mayor Denis Perrault applauds.

"It's one of the nice things that happens there [at the Convention]," he said. "It's a way that you can honour those people that have worked a long time for you. We had five from the City that could have been there to accept awards and three did."

The trio that were able to attend included Swift Current deputy chief in charge of operations Darren McClelland, equipment operator Claude Bissonnette, and executive assistant to the mayor and chief administrative officer Marlene Johnson.

Terry Lovestone, a golf course maintainer, and Les Wiebe, a labourer in water workers and the streets division, were unable to be in attendance for the awards, but will still receive their certificates.
