Recently the Saskatchewan Waste Reduction Council named the winners of this year's Saskatchewan Waste Minimization Awards and Swift Current was among the winners.

Superintendent of Solid Waste and Diversion for the city, Keegan Story details the application process for the award.

"We submitted a nomination for a municipality of over 5000 residents and focused on our yard waste collection program and the composting side of things and the diversion the city has achieved through that program."

Story provides additional details on these city programs.

"The program is essentially for residents to bring their yard waste and tree clippings. And it helps to keep that waste out of our landfill and not producing methane."

There are two-yard waste collection sites available in the city. One is located on the south side at the former St. Joe's school site and the other is at the Iplex.

In regards to the award, Story adds that it is an honour and goes to show the contributions and support of the city with these programs.
