Vestas-Canadian Wind Technology is helping out Great Plains College with the donation of a wind turbine blade for the college's new Wind Turbine Maintenance Technician program.

Centennial Wind Power Plant Site Manager Gerry Desrocher says the item was never used, after a tornado touched down in 2005 while construction was going on at the site. Several parts were damaged as a result, including the blade.

Desrocher says the blade is very expensive to make and transport, so it is a terrific find for the college.

It is currently being housed at the airport, and will be moved section by section into the college's wind turbine shop.

Desroucher says they are happy to help, and hopeful some of the graduates will end up working for them.
