The number of collision claims filed with SGI in January of 2012 is down significantly compared to the same time period from last year.

In 2012, just over 10,000 claims were received for the month as compared to over 13,000 the year prior.

The warmer then normal temperatures we've seen this winter have made the biggest contribution to the reduction in the number of claims but recent freezing rain and snowfall could see a small spike in those numbers.

Kelley Brinkworth with SGI says it's encouraging to see collision claims dropping and reminds everyone to continue to drive safe.

"Remember to leave a little more distance between your vehicle and one in front of you so you have more time to stop if you do need to", Brinkworth says. "But the most important thing to remember is to slow down and drive according to weather conditions. Posted speed limits are there for ideal conditions."
