Swift Current Comprehensive High School

The Swift Current Comprehensive High School Drama department came home with some hardware after attending provincials in Regina this weekend.

They won the competition for their performance of "The Most Massive Woman Wins".

Director Drew Hamilton says it's about four women who meet in a liposuction clinic in the waiting room.

"It flashes back to different stories and things that have happened to them in their lives that brought them to that point," explains Hamilton. "It's really a look at self image and body image and what society thinks of weight and women."

Hamilton adds that it was very challenging and very rewarding to direct the piece.

"I was working with four grade 12 girls, so for them to win provincials in their last year of high school is very meaningful for them," says Hamilton. "As you can imagine, just even the content takes a lot of courage and bravery for those girls to be able to portray that honestly, and for me to be able to help them find that and do it justice, as it's a pretty important topic, was pretty challenging."

Megan Brooks, Salina Wall, Charity Rousseaux and Emily Hammer all won acting awards for their performances, while Stage Manager Jayna Brooks won best stage manger and Lighting technician Ian McKonkey won a lighting award.
