The ministry of justice increased fees involving provincial court services.

On June 29 the ministry revised court fees. They looked at the actual cost for the service, and compared prices with other provinces.

The provincial court fee regulations have not been changed since 1988, yet some fees have been revised over the years. The fees that are in place right now have not been keeping up with the cost of providing services.

The ministry says the new fees are said to be a better fit for the cost of the services provided.

"The fees that have been put in place are intended to reflect the average cost of each service while still insuring the implemented fee doesn't impede access to justice for people," said Director of Communications at the Ministry of Justice Noel Busse.

As of July 1 the existing fees have been increased and new fees have been added.
