High winds and extremely dry conditions are being blamed for a fire yesterday.

Shaunavon Fire Crews were called out at about three o'clock yesterday afternoon to four miles north and six miles west of Shaunavon. Exhaust from a tractor started a fire which burnt 30-40 acres of grassland.

No injuries were reported.

Merrick Goldstein from the Shaunavon Fire Department says they would like to thank the Arlington graders, the Crescent Point operators, and others who came out to help. He also reminds everyone that, even though it might be November, conditions in the area are very dry and extreme caution is advised, particularly in the winds are up.

Also in Shaunavon, local RCMP responded to an assault call early this past Sunday morning. As a result, 44 year old Dean Richter was taken into custody and appeared before a judge Monday on charges of assault, failing to comply with an undertaking and uttering threats.

Richter pled guilty on all charges and was sentenced to six months in jail and one year probation.
