Swift Current's Cypress Regional Hospital was completed and opened in 2007

With two new healthcare facilities in the works for Maple Creek and Leader, and Swift Current's Cypress Regional Hospital only in operation for just under five years, CSA Standards has just released a new report on what they think hospitals of the future should look like in Canada.

President Bonnie Rose says they consulted hundreds of professionals across the country while writing the 450 page report: "They said when hospitals are built right now, you basically rely on the expertise of the architects and engineers that do the proposal, quote and design for you. They said there is an opportunity out there to help Canadians by writing a standard that takes the best practises from across the country, and define what is the best practise when you are building that new hospital."

Rose is hoping the industry pays attention to their research.

The key item in the report is moving to a one patient per room system for new hospitals.  Rose believes it will help prevent the spread of patient to patient infections, saving money in the long run.
